EPOTY judging drawing to a close

Judging for the Environmental Photographer of the Year is drawing to a close, www.EPOTY.org. The winners will be announced in October with a splash in the national press. The edit suites at Specialist Stock were used by the judges to view the video entries. This was the first year that contributors could enter video but the enthusiasm was impressive and has affected plans for next year, including a Green Media Festival. Here is one of the short-listed clips: “Stepping on Coral” by Ziggy Livnat.

Chernobyl Closes Its Doors To Tourists For Last Time

One of our photographers, Zoltan Balogh visited Chernobyl and the ghost town of Pripyat. The site was closed at the time but a local opened it and showed him round, with no Geiger counter and laughing when Zoltan put on a mask as recommended. His atmospheric photographs from the trip have appeared on the Telegraph travel website today.

Japan – Nuclear Ginza

Small World Productions, the driving force behind our Changing World collection, made this 30 minute investigative documentary, filmed through the eyes of a campaigning photographer. It exposes radiation poisoning among workers inside Japan’s nuclear power industry. While first shown on Channel 4 in 1995, the current nuclear crisis in Japan makes the issues and concerns the film raises more relevant than ever before.
